5 Things To Do in Srinagar

Agar firdaus bar roo-e zameen ast,

Hameen ast-o, hameen ast-o, hameen ast.

(If there is a paradise on earth,

It is this, it is this, it is this)

This is the most used expression when it comes to defining Kashmir. The life naturally gets better when you let your fingers glide through waters of Dal Lake. The rustic nature of this city will leave you mesmerized. Its very difficult for us to choose, highlight and suggest certain things that you can do in Srinagar. However, we have tried to choose the best among the best:

Take a Shikara Ride

You can sit back and relax in a Shikara, a characteristic boat which is decorated with yellow paint, traditional sofas, and curtains. The floating gardens also known as “Rad” in Kashmiri, are one of the striking aspects of the Dal Lake. The Shankaracharya hill provides an aerial view over the lake. We suggest going for a ride during the dusk so you can start when the sky is still blue and witness it turning crimson yellow.

Spend Night in a Houseboat

A spectacular view from the houseboat during the night is out of the world.  A lovely nook of Dal Lake, beloved and lights can make your evening more sublime.  Honeymooners, families, or solo travelers; a night stay at one of the houseboats in Srinagar is something that you simply cannot miss.

Visit Pari Mahal

Historically known as a library of Dara Shikoh, this place is also known as an abode of fairies. This Mahal has seven storeys and provides an arresting view of the entire city. Its believed that fairies appear during the night time and sing traditional songs. Curiosity, beauty, and myth, what else do you need?

Visit Badam Waer and Apple Orchards

Witness orchards in full bloom, thousands of trees laden with apples and almonds which reflects a hue of pink and green color.  Plan an excursion to one of these orchards. The best one is located in Rainawari area known as Badamwaer.

Don’t miss Asia’s biggest Tulip Garden

This garden is located in the foothills of Zabarwan and what adds to the charm of this garden is the backdrop of the beautiful Dal Lake. Tulip Festival is hosted here in March-April every year when tulips are in full bloom. This popular event is organized by the Floriculture department of the State Government. In this flower festival, several cultural programmes, as well as exhibitions, are held.
