Karwa Chauth Festival |
27 October 2018 |
Karva Chauth, the most auspicious festival for the Indian married women, is celebrated across India. The festival is famous amongst people hailing from the northern parts of India, especially Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. As per the Hindu Lunar calendar, this one-day festival falls on the fourth day after Purnmasi (the fool moon) in the month of Kartika. This year, this one-day festival is on October 27, 2018. Karva Chauth is a fasting ritual observed by all married women for the longevity and well being of their husbands. They are not supposed to eat or drink anything for the whole day. Before the sunrise, all married women partake of ‘Sargi’, given by their mothers-in-law or any elderly married woman. The fast is broken after seeing the moon through a ‘Chhalni’ or net and their husband’s face, in the light of ‘diya’ or oil lamp.
