    Expert Review

Alcatel had launched the A3 10 tablet in India back in June 2018. It is the latest budget tablet in the Indian market from the house of Alcatel. Like most other tablets, it also supports voice calling via headset or speaker and has 4G LTE connectivity. Let us find out in our Alcatel A3 10 tablet review if you should purchase this tablet or not.

The Alcatel A3 10 tablet runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS and is powered by a MediaTek MT8735B quad-core processor and 2GB RAM. The tablet boasts of a 10.1-inch HD display and packs in a 4600mAh battery under its hood. There is 16GB of internal memory onboard but you can also expand it further up to 128GB. In the camera department, we get a 5 megapixel camera along with a 2 megapixel selfie shooter. The A3 10 has 4G VoLTE connectivity along with Single SIM support. Other options include 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The Alcatel A3 10 features a lot of sensors such as gyroscope, accelerometer, ambient light and proximity sensors.

    remove Design & Display

The Alcatel A3 10 might be a budget tablet but it looks pretty stylish and premium. It has a metallic design but it is not completely made up of metal. We just get metal bands on the sides and the back is made up of polycarbonate. The overall look is premium and the build quality is good. It weighs quite less and the tablet feels quite compact despite coming with a 10.1-display. However, you have to use both of your hands to use the tablet. The rounded edges give a proper grip and you will not drop the tablet easily. The back cover has an ergonomic design with a 3D texture.

Starting with the front side first, there is a 10.1-inch display along with the selfie camera on the right, couple of sensors and earpiece on the middle top. The tablet comes with three on-screen touch buttons for navigation, so there are no buttons below the display. At the bottom, we have the microUSB port, primary microphone and loudspeaker while the 3.5mm headphone jack and secondary microphone are located at the top. The volume rocker and power/lock button are on the right while the left side has the SIM and microSD card slot. Turning towards the back, we have the primary camera sitting at the extreme left on the top, followed by the Alcatel branding in the middle. The back cover is non-removable but 4600mAh battery (non-removable) sits underneath it. Overall, the Alcatel A3 10 tablet has an ergonomic design and decent specifications.

The Alcatel A3 10 packs in a 10.1-inch IPS display, which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (HD). Obviously, the size is on the bigger side since it is a full-blown tablet. It is a bright display with decent viewing angles. The colors are sharp and vivid. The brightness and contrast levels are good. The images, texts and videos look quite crisp and vivid. The display has moderately good sunlight legibility as well and since it comes with an ambient light sensor, the brightness gets adjusted automatically according to the lighting conditions. There is no branded protection like Corning Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail glass on top of the display but it has a generic protection which saves it from daily wear and tear.

The touch response of the A3 10 is quite fluid and smooth but not the smoothest out there. Overall, the Alcatel A3 10 comes with a big display that is perfect for high-definition content consumption.

    remove Performance

In terms of performance, the Alcatel A3 10 is powered by a MediaTek MT8735B quad-core processor along with 2GB RAM. It is a low-end chipset but it can handle most of the day-to-day processes without facing a lot of issues. Most of the popular apps and games load up quickly but heavy apps and games face some lag and frame drops. The 2GB RAM provides a good multitasking experience and you can perform light multitasking by running more than five or more apps simultaneously. We did not see visible UI lags as well but occasionally there was some stuttering here and there. You cannot play hardcore graphics intensive games but you can easily play the normal 3D games without facing any lag. The A3 10 comes with 16GB of internal memory, out of which around 9GB of free space was available after first boot. You can increase it up to 128GB by adding a microSD card and we get a dedicated slot.

Talking about connectivity, the A3 10 from the house of Alcatel supports Single SIM (micro) and is of course 4G VoLTE enabled. You can make voice calling using a headset or the loudspeaker. The 4600mAh battery (non-removable) under its hood gives out average battery life. You can use the tablet for just about a day with casual to moderate usage. Also, there is no fast charging support as expected.

Overall, the Alcatel A3 10 is a good performer in most of the departments but the battery life is average.

    remove Cameras

The Alcatel A3 10 features a 5 megapixel primary camera at the back. Like most other tablet rear cameras, you will not use it a lot. However, it can click decent images in natural outdoor lighting conditions. The color saturation is on the higher side but the photos look natural. The colors are a bit dull though. Now coming to the low light environments, the images have a lot of noise and hence lacks detail. The focusing is moderately quick and accurate as well. HDR photos look good and is the best mode for clicking landscape images. Macro shots have a decent amount of depth of field effect too. There is a 2 megapixel selfie camera on the front that can take average selfies. You can basically use the camera to make video calls.

The camera app of the A3 10 is easy to use as it comes with a simple interface. It comes with various shooting modes. However, we would suggest you to use the Auto mode as it works for most lighting conditions. The primary camera can shoot HD videos but the quality is below average. Overall, the Alcatel A3 10 has an average set of cameras and it does not matter since you will not use them a lot.

    remove Audio & Video

The loudspeaker of the Alcatel A3 10 tablet is located at the bottom. We get dual speakers with Arkamys audio. It is loud and sounds pretty good. Also, there is no distortion at the highest volume levels. Since the speaker is present at the bottom, the audio gets muffled when the phone is held by our hands while playing games or watching videos. We get a native music app but we would surely suggest you to download a third-party app like Google Play Music to get the optimal music experience as it offers additional features.

Now coming to the video watching experience on the A3 10, you can play both HD or Full HD videos without any stress but it will struggle with Ultra HD or 4K videos. It does come with earphones but it is average in quality and thus we would suggest you to get a good set of earphones to get the best audio experience. Overall, the Alcatel A3 10 provides a decently good audio and video experience.

    remove Software & Ui

The Alcatel A3 10 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS out of the box. It is one of the latest OS from the house of Google but do not expect any major OS update from Alcatel as most budget smartphones and tablets do not get any update whatsoever. Coming to the performance of the UI, it is fluid and smooth for most of the activities, tasks and processes. We did not feel much lag or stuttering during day-to-day usage. It is mostly stock Android like and the company has not put any custom layer on top of the OS. We get all the standard Nougat OS features including Doze mode for saving battery. There are some pre-installed apps (bloatware) but you can easily delete them if you do not want to use them. In case you are not a fan of stock Android, then you can surely install any third-party theme to change the look of the interface.

Overall, the Alcatel A3 10 has a stable interface with minimalistic looks.

    remove Conclusion

The Alcatel A3 10 is a tablet cum smartphone as it comes with a SIM slot and you can make voice calls using the speaker or headset. These kind of devices are very popular in tier II and tier III cities in India because people mostly do not own a computer and hence they need a big screen for carrying all kind of work, which is generally diffcult to do on a smartphone. The A3 10 is a decent tablet as it comes with a big display, stable OS, good audio and decent overall performance. However, the battery life and front camera are average. If you want to purchase a two-in-one device that would serve the purpose of a tablet and smartphone, then you can go for the Alcatel A3 10. In case you would like to check out the competiton, then have a look at the Honor MediaPad T3, Lenovo Tab 4 and Lenovo Yoga 3.
