    Expert Review

Indian smartphone manufacturer Intex has launched the cheapest smartphone this year which costs Rs 3,899 and is available from online stores. Aqua lions T1 Lite comes with solid hardware specifications and Android Nougat and it can give Xiaomi Redmi 5A good competition. The phone is a lower version of Aqua Lion T1 for budget consumers. The entry level smartphone market is witnessing some tough competition these days as the focus is on delivering snappy results on budget price. Chinese brands like Xiaomi, and Coolpads set the trends with affordable handsets at attractive price. Intex has delivered some of the most desired features in this handset and with praiseworthy performance. The phone comes with ‘Matribhasha’ feature which means the phone is operable in 21 Indian languages and this is a great attempt by Intex.

    remove Design & Display

Intex Aqua lions T1 lite is powered by 1.3 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex A7 Spreadtrum SC9832A chipset that is accompanied with Mali-400 GPU and 1GB RAM. It measures 144x73.5x10.2 mm and weighs around 156.6 grams. The handset is a 10.2 mm thick plastic body but Intex has tried to add a classy touch to the phone with a matte finish that sits snugly on your hand. The phone is available in three colors, Royal Black, Steel Gray and Champagne. A 3.5mm headphone jack and the charging port are located at the bottom end. The phone lock button and volume rocker is in the right side. The phone has dual SIM options with GSM and 4G LTE and VoLTE support. The internal memory has 8GB storage space which is expandable up to 64GB with no OTG support. My recommendation would be to stick to that, otherwise with 1GB RAM there are chances of your phone getting slower over time. The phone supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. The 5-inch display comes with no backlit off-screen navigation buttons. The dual camera lens sits on top of the screen with LED flashlight and sensors. Do not expect any beveling or sleek round edges from this design. The basic get up and plastic feel is justified at this price tag. The neat design and sturdy construction is good enough to get on with. The 5-inch display comes with no backlit off-screen navigation buttons. Considering its price, the phone has a neat design and construction.

The 5-inch HD IPS panel has a resolution of 480x854 pixels at 196 pixels per inch with 2.5D curved glass edges. The TFT capacitive touchscreen is justified at this price. The screen is aptly bright and the texts are readable under sunlight and at different viewing angles but tends to be reflective. When you look closely pixelation is visible. The touchscreen is not as smooth as one would expect and over some time it gets iffy to get along. These are oddities of entry-level smartphones and I am sure one will not mind them considering the stakes are not high. The touch buttons below the screen does not have backlit and hence cannot be viewed in dark. The software provides Miravision app from settings menu to alter screen brightness and one can choose among standard, vivid, and user mode. You can also switch to Dynamic Contrast for more depth. The screen appears clear and somewhat sharp with some cool themes and wallpapers to choose from.

    remove Performance

Intex Aqua lions T1 lite is powered 2,200mAh battery which is non-replaceable. The battery is a solid feature of this phone in this low price and is the USP of T1 Lite. The video watching is good with loud volume and clarity and sharpness of sound. One can multi-task with basic applications like Gmail, Chrome, Maps, messages and You Tube in this handset.

    remove Cameras

At Rs 3,899 you get a very basic camera from this phone and it justifies the price tag. T1 Lite has a 5MP rear and 2MP front camera with flash. The highest image resolution is 3264 x 2448 pixels. The quality of pictures is muddy and does a poor job in capturing color intensity and saturation. There is hardly any detail even when you take shots in daylight condition. Having said this, the camera still does a good job of taking pictures without the wow factors and it is not disappointing. On the contrary it is surprising to see how cheap gadgets have become and especially smartphones which come bundled with so many features at such paltry sum. There are different features in shooting like HDR, Continuous Shooting, Autofocus and Panorama. There is a lag in shutter speed but that is not a problem considering its low budget. The videos are shot in 1280x720 pixels with 30 frames per second, not bad considering its price. The video format is MP4 which is a good point. The video quality is okay with sound clarity. There is a lot of noise in videos in dim lit situations, otherwise results are fairly good if you keep your expectations low.

Considering the price point it is remarkable to note the plethora of options one could get in this phone.

    remove Software & Ui

The phone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with no skin on top and that is a relief. The stock Android is good enough for smooth user experience. The phone comes with a couple of pre-installed apps which you cannot get rid of and make room for your own favorite applications. Out of 8GB you get approximately 5GB of effective memory space and 220 MB of RAM space out of 1GB. The hardware has the ability to ensure a seamless software performance with a handful of apps installed. The phone comes with Intex features like LFTY, which is a single-swipe access, Prime Video and Databack. Databack is a wonderful app which lets users save on data usage. The phone has remarkable gaming experience considering its price and specifications. Basic games like Subway surfers, Temple Run 2 runs good with good colors and enough sound. Graphics intensive games like High End 3, Warcraft is not playable in this handset. There is no lag time while playing normal games and the phone runs smooth with no heating issue. You cannot get ambitious with gaming experience in this phone as it is not designed for one. You can get along with basic gaming apps though and the outcome is not disappointing.

    remove Conclusion

Intex Aqua lions T1 lite has its shortcomings but when you glance at the price tag you will be amazed at what it offers. It is a testimony to how cheap and affordable technology has become and its reach to the masses. Intex has always played into the budget phone segment in India and its entry-level handsets perform seamlessly. The T1 Lite is a nice budget smartphone which will run smooth and long enough to keep you going. The 2,200mAh battery has enough fuel to last through more than one day and the best part is to experience smartphone technology at a cheap price.
