Nokia 6.1 outlives your expectations of what a budget phone can do mostly. There are Chinese brands like Xiaomi which has already proved its mettle, but Nokia too is doing the right thing to be on the game once again. Nokia 6.1 is one of the best budget phones. A powerful processor and a robust new Android software that promises to do so many things for what you pay.
Nokia 6.1 was launched in late May as an Amazon exclusive and with a price tag of Rs 15,999 for 4GB RAM, this phone offers a compelling design with solid performance. Nokia has given a facelift to this phone after Nokia 6 and has added all the right elements to create a robust smartphone. Nokia has spent time in designing this phone and it has a strong appeal because it makes a different statement unlike what you see around these days. For all its phones Nokia has isolated itself from the ‘notch’ game. There is no top-notch design in this phone and we like that. The phone is design with lot of aesthetics. The good news is Nokia has put together all the features and specs of a good budget phone that will well serve your demands and expectations.
Running Nokia 6.1is Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. It is coupled with an Adreno 508 GPU and is available in 4GB RAM. It is a powerful processor that can do a lot for you and ensures a buttery smooth performance. It measures 148.8 x 75.8 x 8.6 mm.
The design of Nokia 6.1 is very similar to Nokia 7 Plus. It is the same 6000-aluminum body with copper side accents. The edges are rounded, and the screen is topped with a 2.5D curved glass which is Corning Gorilla Glass 3. There is oleophobic coating to prevent fingerprint impressions. The back is a carbon copy of Nokia 7 Plus with Carl Zeiss dual-lens camera that is housed in a compartment with a copper rim. Below it sits the LED flash. Under the lens sits the fingerprint sensor with the Nokia logo in the middle. In the bottom you find the Android One logo. The volume rocker and lock button are located on the right edge and the single SIM and microSD card slot on the left. On the top is located the 3.5mm audio jack. On the bottom sits the USB Type-C charging port and microphone. It is indeed a stellar design. The thing is Nokia somehow has pinned this similar design pattern for its budget and mid-range phones and stick to it religiously rather than going overboard or downplaying.
The phone has a whopping internal memory of 64GB which is expandable up to 128GB. It has a dual band Wi-Fi support. The phone package includes an earphone and USB Type-C charger.
The 5.5-inch IPS LCD display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 with 403 pixels per inch with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and games watching movies or playing games great. The capacitive touchscreen is super smooth and snappy. The display has quite a pop and excellent color saturation. The screen has good viewing angles and is bright enough in dark and not reflective in direct sunlight. The screen appears clear and sharp with some cool themes and wallpapers to choose from. The screen navigation happens in a flutter and is a joy to use.
The non-removable 3,000 mAh battery is a beast for this phone. The battery will last you through the day with basic operations as well as extensive use and you will be left with a little over 20 percent charge at the end of the day. The phone comes with fast-charging option but does not have any wireless charging option. In 30 minutes you can charge up the Nokia 6.1 to 50% which is superb.
Accepting and making calls is perfect with clear voice and good noise cancellation. The phone has a download speed of 300Mbps in good network connection. You can play games like PUBG and Asphalt with ease and zero issues.
Nokia 6.1 is an excellent performing phone and deserves our attention for all the right reasons.
The camera of Nokia 6.1 is one of the best budget camera phones out there. The rear has a 16MP camera tuned with Carl Zeiss lens and dual-LED flash. Getting a Carl Zeiss in budget phone is in itself a dream. The rear camera supports 2160p video recording. Android One has very simple camera app with basic modes and operations. There is an excellent Live Bokeh mode and also one can add bokeh effects later. One can also adjust the blur in real-time. In daylight shots are fabulous with beautiful color capture, contrast and depth. The wild curves in the sides creates an obstacle tough to focus and trigger shutter as you end up touching the screen every time.
Night shots are surprisingly good in this phone. If it is a well-lit up environment, then night pictures are mostly as clear and distinct as they could be in a budget-phone. It is quite good most of the time.
The selfie camera is an 8MP one with f/2.0 aperture and supports 1080p video recording. Selfie shots are fabulous too and one of the best compared to other cameras in similar priced phones. Videos captured in rear camera are good with nice sound quality. Videos are shot in 30 fps in 1080p resolution. The cameras do not have image stabilization features like OIS or EIS.
Though the phone has an underwhelming camera app but that can be left out for the stunning pictures you can take with this phone.
Nokia 6.1 runs on Android One platform with Oreo out of the box. This means it is a stock Android in true sense. All the advantages and effects of Android One is present in this phone and you will love it mostly. The software can be upgraded to Android Pie which has even more upper hand when it comes to power utilization, and optimization of apps operation that ensures your phone runs extra smooth than what it did before.
Also, Android One will get the regular security updates from Google and any other software updates for three whole years.
