    Expert Review

OnePlus has been releasing phones every six months and the new launch promises to do the best for you just like any popular high-end smartphones out there, albeit at a lower price. It is not priced in the likes of iPhone X or Samsung Galaxy S9 but it does perform very close to what these expensive phones offer you. To begin with, OnePlus 6 is loaded with top-notch hardware to produce a mind-blowing performance. It has an all-glass body design, one to die for just like Huawei Mate 10Pro. And top of that it will give you a taste of Android Pie. There are two variants of this phones, a 6GB and an 8GB RAM. The former is priced at Rs 34,999 and the later at Rs 39,999. The phone was launched in May in India and worldwide. Currently you can buy OnePlus 6 from Amazon and some 8 pop-up stores across the country. OnePlus has almost rebranded this phone by remedying its earlier mistakes and packed in a punch which is going to rival HTC U12 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S9 and LG G7 ThinQ. If you are looking for an uplifted Android experience with a beefed-up hardware, OnePlus 6 will not disappoint you.

    remove Design & Display

This is the first OnePlus6 which comes with an all-glass body design with suave appearance. It is available in three colors but only Mirror Black is available in India. The phone is a 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.8 mm body which weighs 177 grams. The aluminum frame is glass covered with a special coating that is anti-oleophobic and tends to lend a grippy texture to the phone. OnePlus has bestowed the phone with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, the best in the market. The processor is coupled with Adreno 630 GPU and the 6 GB RAM has meat enough to meet any challenging demands. The phone comes with no fast charging option but can be bundled with dash charger to charge up the phone within a short time. The fact is you have to dish out extra cash for buying a dash charger and I doubt how favorable would that be. But still to lift you up OnePlus 6 has not done away with a headphone jack, the favorite of all. The phone package does not include any though, again you have to buy that separately. So much for aiming for a high-end phone. But the OnePlus 6 is a luxurious design upending its predecessors and it will surely turn your head.

The phone has special abilities to tackle your gaming experience with dedicated algorithms. This means it shuts down resources to back-end apps and other negligible operations and instead concentrates on the matter in hand. This means you will literally get a fast performing and seamless gaming experience. To add to this, the phone is packed with Qualcomm’s X16 baseband and an antenna density that supports 4X4 MIMO. This translates into faster download speed beating other similar priced smartphones in the market. The phone is weather resistant but no IP rating for dust and water proof.

The phone package comes with screen protector, translucent case, fast charge type-c cable, fast charge power adapter, and sim-tray ejector. The 3.5 mm headset jack and the charging port is located at the bottom edge. The power and volume rocker button are situated at the right side and is minimally engraved. The phone comes with dual-sim option and no microSD card slot. The 128 GB and 256GB internal storage is all you get. To be frank, that is all you need in a phone. This phone is quite an answer to what a dream phone can be like.

Yes, it is optic AMOLED display, if that is what you are thinking, with a resolution of 1,080 by 2,280 pixels at 402 pixels per inch. OnePlus has still kept away from providing a QHD+ display. But that does not take the shine away from the screen in this handset. It is indeed a sharp, bright and punchy display with excellent color saturation unlike some other OnePlus 6 phones. The phone screen can be a little too wide for your taste and especially if you are hooked on to the 18:9 aspect ratio. OnePlus 6 has a 19:9 ratio which makes it 2.96 inches wider and maybe you will get a hang for it. The wider, the better. This also explains why the phone is harder to operate with one hand. But if you seriously nitpick this could be an issue. And the big news is it comes with a notch, something smartphone brands are copying insanely from iPhone and angering its trusted customers. There are many out there who simply do not like the idea of a top-notch in their screen and I believe it is time brands get over with it. But thankfully you can shut it down. The screen as well as the back comes with Gorilla Glass 5.

    remove Performance

The OnePlus 6 is powered by a 3,300 mAh Li-ion battery with fast charging option. Android Pie makes sure you get the most out of your battery. The battery lasts well though the day with single charge.

This phone gives you incredible gaming experience with superb audio, video and seamless performance. There is no issue with lag time or heating up. Accepting and receiving calls are perfect with ample sound and active noise cancellation. The phone has a download speed of 300Mbps and upload speed of 50Mbps with good network connectivity.

The phone can surely multitask, and the software is buttery smooth and robust. Throw anything at this phone and it can take it.

    remove Cameras

Camera is one field where even most serious and steep priced phones fail. OnePlus have had issues too with its previous handsets, which delivered mediocre to poor results. The rear camera of OnePlus 6 is a dual-lens with 16MP + 20MP spec with LED flash. The front is a 16 MP camera. To talk of the camera specs in detail, the rear is equipped with OIS which guarantees image stabilization, so no more shaky shots with this handset. The sensor too needs special mentioning. It is an IMX 519 sensor that works wonders for smartphones. OnePlus has tried its best to tune its hardware with the software to gain optimum results and the camera results speaks for it. The camera lets you record video in Full HD mode with 60 fps at 2160p being the highest.

Apart from some of the basic camera modes present these days, like HDR, panorama, and pro mode, there are other effects inspired by Snapchat, Instagram and Prisma. The phone grabs all the charm for its bokeh mode which is excellent. The shots capture color gradient and almost perfect color composure. Regular shots are captured with proper saturation and color gradients. It nails all the requirements of a good smartphone camera and it is a relief to see the results which most phones even at higher prices fail to muster. In low light you won’t be disappointed, and this is an area which hardly gives amazing results. The shots that you get in poor light through OnePlus 6 is better than most phones but not as penetrating and remarkable as iPhone X or Samsung Galaxy S9. But they are higher prices than OnePlus 6. The camera app is powerful just like OnePlus’ other handsets. It is easy to use and provides a bundle of pro-features, slo-mo option and time lapse. The selfie camera has a nifty portrait mode feature. But it suffers from the same old edge reduction problems just like iPhone X and some other high-end smartphones. There are other features like Pro, Panorama, HDR, Night, and Food modes.

The bottomline is this phone camera is well worth your money. The phone has good ability to autofocus and there are no major impediments in doing its job. Videos are well balanced too with good audio quality.

    remove Software & Ui

The phone runs Android Oreo 8.1 with OnePlus’ Oxygen OS skin top. You can upgrade the phone right now to Android Pie and get more out of its software. The experience of Oxygen OS is very fuss-free with meaningful customizations. If you are not familiar with this OS you are going to love it. Oxygen hardly comes with any bloatware and is optimized to give users a smooth sailing experience. It is a very robust software with hardly any pitfalls. It has a reading mode that turns the screen yellow, a gaming mode that switches off notifications and when you double tap the power button the camera app opens up. Oxygen OS also gives you Face Unlock feature which is very much its own baby. You also get regular updates and security patches, something OnePlus has dedicatedly continued since its inception. There are apps like Parallel App which lets you use different versions of same application for varied use. The software has also been optimized to run top 100 Play Store applications without any hiccup. The overall experience is praiseworthy for its snappiness as you glide over in a brisk.

    remove Conclusion

Go for this phone if you are planning to buy something cheaper than iPhone X or Samsung Galaxy S9, Honor View 10, Huawei Mate 10Pro and yet expecting a premium device that performs beautifully. OnePlus 6 is just few miles shot from this high-end phone and it is a real value for your money. The best hardware spec, seamless software and pretty good camera is a powerful combo that we have seen in phones in this price after long time. This handset does not have any competition yet when you compare it with other phones in terms of specs, performance and results. It is a winner in all scenario.
