    OPPO F11 Pro Expert Review

    Pros:Cons:
    • Good display

    • Impressive performance

    • Good battery life

    • Improved UI

    • Average low-light camera

OPPO has been doing quite well in the mid-range and budget segment in India. Thanks to its camera-centric features and beautiful designs, the masses seem to be quite attracted to the brand’s offering. In-line with the same, OPPO recently launched the F11 Pro in the F-series with a pop-up sliding design which is interesting and should amass the young audience. In our today, we shall find out if the F11 Pro is worth the money you are spending. Read along.

    OPPO F11 Specifications

The Oppo F11 Pro sports a 6.5-inch full HD+ (2340 × 1080 pixels) 19:5:9 aspect ratio display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 12nm processor 12nm SoC clocked at 2GHz Octa-Core processor with 900MHz ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. It packs 6GB RAM and 128GB storage that is further expandable up to 256GB with microSD. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie with ColorOS 6.0 skin on top.

As for the optics, the Oppo F11 Pro features dual rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP primary sensor with f/1.79 aperture and 5MP secondary camera with. On the front, there is a 16MP pop-up selfie snapper for video calls. Connectivity features include Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/GLONASS, Micro USB Port. It comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. There is a 4,000mAh battery with VOOC flash charge 3.0 support on board.

OPPO F11 Pro Hardware and Design

The OPPO F11 Pro packs a glass sandwich design. The dual tone colour finish at the back is very flashy and looks impressive especially when light is reflected. Despite the polycarbonate build, the phone doesn’t feel cheap in hands. Right from the word go, the OPPO F11 Pro looks premium and solid. At 190 grams, it is slightly on the bulky side and this might hurt your hands on extended usage.  Since it packs a plastic build, it attracts fingerprints quite easily making you constantly clean it. The edges are rounded offering good grip in hands. Since it is 6.5-inches in size, reaching every corner might not be possible. The pop-up slider is very fast to raise, it barely takes 1-2 seconds time which is acceptable.

Moving to placements, since it has a pop-up selfie snapper, the front is completely bezel-less. The 16MP pop-up slider rises when you enable the front camera. The phone comes with an impressive screen-to-body ratio for gaming and media consumption. The volume rockers and SIM card tray and a dedicated microSD card section are present on the left side. While the power button is placed on the right side. On the top, it has a secondary microphone for noise cancellation. The 3.5mm audio headphone jack, microUSB port, speaker grill, and a microphone are placed on the bottom. On the back, it has a 48+5MP dual rear cameras, LED flash, OPPO branding and fingerprint sensor. The back panel is not removable, so is the 4000mAh battery. Overall, the build and design of the OPPO F11 Pro are pretty interesting and impressive.

    OPPO F11 Pro Display

The Oppo F11 Pro sports a 6.5-inch full HD+ (2340 × 1080 pixels) 19:5:9 aspect ratio display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Though the panel is not AMOLED, it looked punchy and vibrant. The colours really pop-out and they are pleasing to the eyes. The outdoor visibility is very impressive, we were able to access the content on the phone outdoors and under direct sunlight with maximum brightness. The viewing angles are impressive; the content on the phone is clearly visible even from extreme angles. The touch response is smooth while scrolling the UI.

It comes with an auto-brightness sensor which when enabled auto adjusts the brightness depending on the surrounding lighting. Since the phone comes with a pop-up slider, there is no notch and expect for a sizeable chin at the bottom, there are no bezels on all corners resulting in an impressive 90.9% screen-to-body ratio. This leads to excellent media and gaming experience. ColorOS 6.0 also includes an option to tweak the display temperature to your liking. Overall, the display of the OPPO F11 Pro did really impress us.

    OPPO F11 Pro Battery

The OPPO F11 Pro packs 4,000mAh battery with VOOC flash charge 3.0 support on board. During our testing, our usual working day includes usage ranging from clicking pictures, shooting video, streaming content, navigation, listening to music, social media, the phone was able to last until the end of the day without any issues. We managed to record a screen on time of around 6 hours which is quite impressive. There was no idle battery drain, the drop was around 5% overnight which is quite fine.

Moving to heavy usage including gaming, streaming videos through LTE, editing photos, and running too many chrome tabs, the phone could only last until evening, meaning you will have to charge once or twice to pull through the day. With the bundled charger, the phone took close to 2 hours 15 minutes to charge fully from 1-100%. Overall the battery of the OPPO F11 Pro is just quite alright for our usage.

OPPO F11 Pro Software and U.I

The OPPO F11 Pro runs on Android 9.0 Pie with ColorOS 6.0 on top. The good thing about ColorOS 6.0 is that it comes with an app drawer finally where you can find all the installed apps in a single roof. There is a theme store installed by default where you can download and install themes to change the look and feel of the interface. The ColorOS 6.0 offers handy features like long-press for quick actions, single tap to quickly switch between apps, multi-window, and also iPhone X style full-screen gestures. There is also an OPPO app store with selected few apps under its sleeve and a phone manager app which lets you manage RAM, storage, clean junk, and optimize the phone.

Apart from Google apps, there are a bunch of third-party apps like Amazon, UC browser, Daily Hunt, Paytm, Facebook, Zing MP3, Zalo and others. These apps can be removed if you don’t want them on your phone, which is a good thing. As said above, the phone comes with 6GB RAM out of which around 3.8GB is user usable memory. Thanks to the massive RAM, users can run most apps they wish to and it was able to handle multitasking without any lag or stutters. The UI animations and transitions are also smooth. We definitely like what OPPO has done with ColorOS 6.0 as it feels quite refined and smooth right out of the box. Overall, the software experience of the OPPO F11 Pro is impressive.

    OPPO F11 Pro Performance

The OPPO F11 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 12nm processor 12nm SoC clocked at 2GHz Octa-Core processor with 900MHz ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU and 6GB of RAM. Despite being a MediaTek chipset, the performance never slowed down. Apps open fast and they load pretty quick as well. Thanks to 6GB of RAM, most apps stayed in memory even if you have 6-7 active apps running in the background. We didn’t notice any significant lag or stutters in the interface while switching between apps or when navigating through the interface.

We didn’t notice any heating or freezing issues and the 12nm chipset consumes low power. Moving to heavy usage, the ColorOS 6.0 powered F11 Pro was able to keep things for the most part. In terms of the gaming department, we played a wide range of PUBG Mobile, Nova 3 Legacy, Modern Combat 5, Leo’s Fortune, and more. While mid-range games ran fine, PUBG needed its graphics set to medium to have lag-free gaming experience. We didn’t notice any frame drops but did feel slight warmth on the rear. It comes with a fingerprint sensor and it instantly unlocks the phone. Overall, the performance of the OPPO F11 Pro is impressive, but one needs to have their gaming expectations in check.

    OPPO F11 Pro Camera

The Oppo F11 Pro features dual rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP primary sensor with f/1.79 aperture and 5MP secondary camera with. On the front, there is a 16MP pop-up selfie snapper for video calls.  The camera is feature rich with real-time High Dynamic Range (HDR) sensor, AI Beauty 2.0, A.I scene-detection and more. Moving to the camera performance, while the 48MP looks good on paper and to brag, the reality is just about decent. While the phone can click images with accurate colours and details, we found them to be a bit dull for our liking. They are not very punchy and don’t pop-up either. The secondary 5MP sensor for portrait shots does justice for the most part. The edge detection is decent, but it is a hit or a miss in artificial and low-light conditions.

Moving to low-light, the shots are decent for the most part, but more often than not, they were noisy and grainy. On the front, there is a 16MP pop-up shooter that opens the slider instantly. The picture quality was decent, and we did manage to get impressive results outdoors and in good lighting conditions. The rear camera was able to record 1080p videos and the footage was decent. Overall, the cameras were fine and did their job just fine.

OPPO F11 Pro Audio and Video

The company is bundling a pair of earphones in the box, but they are Apple AirPods like design which hurt our ears after extended listening. Moving along, the audio quality when tested with the headphones we had with us was loud and clear. We didn’t notice any distortion or squeaking sounds even on loud volume. It did a good job in balancing the vocals and bass levels. The speaker grill is present on the bottom which is an ideal location, but your hands might block it when holding it in the landscape mode while gaming or media consumption. The default music player was able to play a wide range of audio formats.

In terms of video department, the OPPO F11 Pro was able to play 1080p videos, and the playback was smooth without any issues. It was able to play a wide range of video formats. Thankfully, we didn’t notice any heating or freezing issues even when playing high definition videos. The bezel-less aspect ratio brings more screen real estate, watching videos and movies was an excellent experience. Overall, the audio and video department of the OPPO F11 Pro was impressive.

    OPPO F11 Pro Verdict

The OPPO F11 Pro priced at Rs, 24,990 is a worthy offering to consider in the segment. It comes with an impressive design that looks premium and solid in hands, the performance is impressive as it was able to handle multitasking and heavy usage quite well, and the software experience, thanks to ColorOS 6.0 is quite good too. The 4,000mAh battery was able to last until the end of the day without any issues. The only downside to the phone is the average low-light camera performance, and couldn’t handle high-end games well.
