Oppo F5 Price in India is Rs.14790 for 4GB/32GB Variant and Rs.18500 for 6GB/64GB variant. The Oppo F5 is powered by 2.5GHz octa-core processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Oppo F5 packs a 16-megapixel (f/1.8) primary camera on the rear and a 20-megapixel front shooter for selfies, 3200mah battery and more.
The Oppo F5 is a fresh, modern mid-ranged smartphone. It has a wonderful bezel-less design, which is accompanied by a 18:9 full-screen display. It has a set of good cameras, smooth interface and good overall performance. However, it misses out on fast charging support, which is quite basic in this price segment. Also, we could have got a better processor and Face Unlock feature is a bit gimmicky. So you can purchase the Oppo F5 if you want a modern smartphone with AI selfie features. In case you want to check out the competition, do have a look at the Honor 9i, Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro and Infinix Zero 5 Pro.
Oppo introduced a bezel-less smartphone named the F5 in November 2017 in the Indian market. The main USP of this mid-ranged phone is its 6-inch 18:9 full-screen display that looks stunning. We also get a 20 megapixel front-facing camera with AI beauty recognition technology that scans 200 facial recognition spots to beautify a selfie shot perfectly and also offers bokeh effect. So let us take a quick look at the Oppo F5 review in order to find out its overall verdict based on all parameters. However, do take a quick look at the specifications of the mobile first.
The Oppo F5 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P23 octa-core processor, that runs Color OS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat OS. The mobile features both 4GB/6GB RAM, 32GB/64GB internal memory (expandable up to 256GB) and rocks a 6-inch Full HD+ full-screen display. In the camera department, we get a 16 megapixel rear shooter along with a 20 megapixel selfie camera. The phone has Dual SIM connectivity along with 4G VoLTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (Dual Band), Bluetooth 4.2 LE and GPS + GLONASS. In the sensor section, we get an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light and proximity sensors. Under the hood, the F5 packs in a 3200mAh non-removable battery.
The Oppo F5 is undoubtedly a premium smartphone when it comes to looks. It has an all metal premium body which looks stunning with the bezel-less full-screen display on front. The build quality is superb and the phone feels great in hands. Despite of being a bezel-less phone, it is quite tall because of the big display and hence it will be difficult to use the phone with one hand. The F5 is quite slim (7.5mm thick) and weighs only 152 grams. The curved edges help in achieving a perfect grip. The metal back also has a matte finish but still it is slightly slippery. Hence, we would suggest you to use a good protective case to protect it from any drop. Now looking at the front side of the Oppo F5, we find a 6-inch display panel along with the selfie camera, LED notification, couple of sensors and earpiece. There are no capacitive buttons below the display as we get on-screen buttons for navigation. The volume up/down buttons are located on the left side while the right side houses the power/lock button and tray for SIM and microSD cards. The loudspeaker, microUSB port, primary microphone and 3.5mm headphone jack are found at the bottom while the top remains clean. Heading towards the back, we get the primary camera with LED flash and secondary microphone on the top left. The fingerprint sensor and Oppo branding are seen below it. Underneath the non-removable metal back cover, we get a 3200mAh battery (non-removable). Overall, the Oppo F5 has a great bezel-less design and premium build quality along with decent hardware.
The Oppo F5 rocks a 6-inch full-screen IPS display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels (Full HD+). It is a bezel-less display which looks stunning even when the screen is off. This display is tailor-made for watching high-definition content and playing high-end games. The screen feels immersive and gives a great viewing experience. The colors are neutral and they look bright and vivid. Brightness and contrast levels are high, viewing angles are good and sunlight legibility is decent as well. Texts, photos and videos look very crisp on this phone. We get 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top of the display and it really helps in protecting the screen from daily wear and tear. It may also save it from drops but do use a protective case and do not drop your smartphone since Gorilla Glass protection also does not guarantee full safety.
When it comes to the touch response, the F5 has a very fluid and smooth touch interface mainly due to the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, smooth interface and good quality display. Overall, the Oppo F5 comes with a gorgeous and immersive full-screen display.
The Oppo F5 is being powered by a MediaTek Helio P23 octa-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz. It is a mid-ranged chipset from the house of MediaTek but we could have got a better one at this price point. Anyway, it can easily handle all the general day-to-day tasks. There is no visible lag or stuttering. Most popular apps and games load up quickly. We get options of both 4GB and 6GB RAM for performing intense multitasking. The 4GB model is enough for handling your multitasking needs but you can also get the 6GB RAM which will give you more storage and more backup RAM. When it comes to gaming, the F5 can almost run all the games at the highest settings, be it the most graphics intensive games or normal 3D games. The Oppo F5 comes with both 32GB and 64GB of internal storage, out of which you will get around 25GB and 55GB of free space, respectively. The storage can be extended externally by up to 256GB if you need extra storage and we also get a dedicated microSD card slot. There is a fingerprint sensor at the back that works very quickly and accurately but if you have small hands, it might be a problem to reach the sensor on a daily basis. Then you can use the Face Unlock technology for unlocking the phone but it is gimmicky for now and does not work very accurately. It may get better over time with software updates.
When it comes to connectivity, we get both Dual SIM (nano) option along with 4G VoLTE support. Also, 4G is supported on both the SIM card slots and you can use them simultaneously. There is a 3200mAh battery (non-removable) under the hood but we do not get fast charging support. In a smartphone priced around Rs. 20,000, fast charging support is certainly necessary. Anyway, you will get around one day of battery life at max with moderate usage.
Overall, the Oppo F5 is a good performer in most verticals.
In the Oppo F5 smartphone, there is a 16 megapixel primary rear camera. It is a good camera that can click awesome pictures in bright outdoor environments. The colors look sharp and vivid. It is also not oversaturated. The images have a lot of detail including shadows. The low light performance is not the best as we get some grain and noise in the photos. Focusing mechanism is quite fast and accurate as well. HDR photos look awesome because of great dynamic range while macro shots have some amount of depth of field. The real star in the camera department is the 20 megapixel selfie camera because it supports AI recognition technology. It is able to scan 200 facial recognition spots to beautify a selfie shot perfectly and hence you can click beautiful selfies in almost every lighting situation. Also, you can click portrait selfies with bokeh effect.
The camera app of the F5 has great features but it is very simple and easy to use. The stock app offers various shooting modes including a pro mode and it is sufficient for clicking and editing images. Both the cameras can shoot Full HD videos and quality is very good. Overall, the Oppo F5 comes with a great AI enabled selfie camera and a capable rear camera.
The machine drilled speaker holes of the Oppo F5 are found at the left bottom. The mono loudspeaker sounds great and is very loud as well. There is no audio distortion even at the highest volume levels. However, the sound will get blocked by your palm when you watch videos or play games. We get a native music player app with the phone which comes with all the necessary features and hence we would not need any other third-party app. We also get a bundle earphone and they are quite good in terms of audio quality.
When it comes to video playback, the F5 is capable of playing both Full HD and 4K videos with ease. Again, the default video player app is quite good but you can also download an app like VLC Player to get the best video watching experience. Overall, the Oppo F5 offers a great audio and video playback.
Out of the box, the Oppo F5 runs on Color OS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat OS. It is great to see Oppo bundling their smartphone with Nougat OS now as most of their previous lineup were stuck with Lollipop OS. However, do not think of getting an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo OS or later here as Oppo does not provide any major OS update to any of their smartphones. Talking about features, Color OS offers great customization options but mostly looks like iOS. The icons and settings menu resemble iOS a lot but it has become better over years and is bearable now. We get a lot of widgets, wallpapers, effects and themes. So you can make cosmetic changes and make the interface look better, according to your choice. In terms of stability, the interface is very smooth and does not lag during basic day-to-day usage. There is a Security Centre app that also includes a power manager, notifications disabler, data monitor and memory cleanup tool. We get some pre-installed apps (bloatware) but you can easily delete them to free up some space. If you do not like the Color OS interface and want to change the look, then just download any third-party theme like Pixel Launcher to get the stock Android look.
Overall, the Oppo F5 has a fluid interface based on Nougat OS and Color OS has evolved a lot over the last couple of years.
