Microsoft Corporation launched its Surface Go laptop at $399 (Rs 27,450) on July 10. The price bracket came as a surprise for many since Microsoft’s Windows laptops cost more than $600 (Rs 41,277), but Surface Go could be the game changer, as it looks like a mini version of Surface Pro. The laptop is powered by Windows 10 S, which is a latest version of Windows 10 and specifically made for educational purpose. However, it doesn’t seem Microsoft is only targeting students as their main audience, as the OS sports the same Windows 10 streamlined design.
The 12-inch device comes with 4GB of RAM and a 64GB eMMc internal storage, that definitely is not a match up for surface series. As the tablet priced is under $400, it uses Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor clocked at 1.6GHz and based on 14nm process. Microsoft claims the startup process should take less than 15 seconds, and the login process less than five seconds.
Another version of Surface Go is available with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD for techy buffs, which is priced at $599. The device also sports a USB Type-C reversible charging port.
Does it Really compete with iPad ?
When it comes to tablet, 1st thing that comes to our mind is a keyboard-less touch screen experience with lots of computing apps. But Microsoft presents “Surface Go” more of a PC-like product rather than a pure tablet experience. However, iPad comes with only touch screen option and almost 1.3 million computing apps can be used on iPad, which is definitely missing on Surface devices. So, there is no comparison between both the devices.
Why Surface Go?
Surface Go is a low cost affordable version of Surface Pro, which surely sports a sleek design and a pure PC-like experience (with its additional $99 cover). As it already comes with MS Office in-built, the Educational and official work can be done on-the-go.
Overall the device is pretty good and affordable, as per the Surface series.
