The most anticipated launch of the year just happened on September 12. Yes, you might have guessed till now, after so many leaks and rumours about what could happen on the day. Your favourite ‘fruit’ has spilled some of the best ‘seeds’ into the market. Yes, we are talking about the Gather Round event by Apple that took place in California, where the globe witnessed the launch of not just one, but four special products of the year. Apple has not only unveiled a new Watch Series 4, but three new iPhones too for the year 2018, namely iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

Steve Jobs founded the Cupertino-based tech company, along with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, on April 1, 1976. Since the launch of iPhone 5 in the year 2012, Apple has been consistent with their launches taking place in September every year. Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and a notched iPhone X on the 12th of September, only. This time around, the American tech giant has, yet again, unveiled three new iPhones, alongside a new Apple Watch Series 4.

The Gather Round event was held at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California, where the unveiling of all the four products took place. Out of the lot, iPhone XR is the cheapest or the most ‘affordable’ iPhone in the new 2018 series. It features a design very similar to the iPhone X, that was launched back in 2017. The iPhone XR flaunts a 6.1-inch edge-to-edge LCD panel, touted as Apple’s “Liquid Retina” HD display. Under the hood, it packs an A12 Bionic chip, from Apple, based on the 7nm process. Running on iOS 12, the iPhone XR features a TrueDepth camera, in the display notch, at the front with advanced Face ID recognition. The smartphone, however, misses out on a 3D Touch which was consistent in all iPhones since the launch of iPhone 6S in 2015. Instead, iPhone XR supports a Haptic Touch functionality to help you instantly launch the camera or flashlight by pressing on the home screen. The dual SIM, dual standby smartphone accepts a eSIM apart from a primary physical SIM. Apple has partnered with Jio and Airtel in India to provide with a eSIM to users when they purchase the iPhone XR.

The new Apple A12 Bionic chip can launch an app faster by 30 percent, as compared to the previous A11 chip. The “industry-first 7nm chip” includes a hexa-core CPU and a quad-core GPU, accompanied with a next-gen Neural Engine, that helps the chip to deliver five trillion operations per second. Apple iPhone XR is built with a 7000-series aerospace grade aluminium, and offers IP67 protection against dust and water.

Squaring up, iPhone XR comes in 64GB, 128GB, and a 256GB storage options. At the rear, the ‘affordable’ smartphone sports a single 12-megapixel image sensor with f/1.8 aperture, alongside a quad-LED True Tone flash, combined with OIS, flicker-detect system, and Focus Pixels. Inside the display notch, sits a 7-megapixel image sensor with f/2.2 aperture, an IR camera, and a dot projector for facial recognition even in the dark. Both the rear and front camera features a software enabled Advanced Bokeh Depth Control to provide a stunning Bokeh effect. The front camera now supports Group FaceTime, so that you can have a talk with whole of your gang with Apple’s smart experience.

The Apple iPhone XR will go for pre-orders starting October 19, and will be shipping from October 26 in India, in a host of all new colours including Blue, White, Black, Yellow, Coral and (PRODUCT)RED. The smartphone starts at a price of Rs 76,900 in India for the base variant of 64GB, and goes up as high as Rs 91,900 for the 256GB storage variant. Whereas, the US prices of the smartphone surely differ, where the iPhone XR starts at a price of USD 749 (roughly Rs 53,800) and goes up to USD 899 (nearly Rs 64,600).
