Gone are the days when Nokia stuck to its Symbian phones and Lumia series. Though Nokia entered the pool late, now it’s swimming at a good pace with its Android-powered smartphones. All thanks to HMD Global that lent a hand to Nokia and taught it how to swim against the waves. The Finnish tech giant has launched the Nokia 7.1 in the Indian market which was unveiled for the first time in London last month.

HMD Global’s latest offering Nokia 7.1 flaunts a PureDisplay panel with HDR10 color format for enhanced viewing experience. This is said to be its key highlight, while other features include the popular Zeiss optics enclosed in the dual rear camera setup and a decent 3,060 mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. Nokia 7.1 shows off the front and rear glass panels in style, along with a 6000-series aluminium CNC machined frame that looks stunning and feels premium in hand.

HMD Global’s Vice President and Country Head for India, Ajey Mehta, during the Nokia 7.1 launch said, “We know a lot of our fans in India enjoy creating videos and watching content on their smartphones. That’s why it was important for us to bring both Zeiss optics and PureDisplay technology together in a versatile device that offers a superior content experience, regardless of whether you’re taking photos for your social media or watching the latest series on your favorite streaming service.”

Talking about specifications, the Nokia 7.1 is a dual-SIM (Nano) smartphone and sports a 5.84-inch Full HD+ PureDisplay panel with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, a 19:9 aspect ratio, HDR10 support, and is protected by a pretty older Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Nokia 7.1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset clocked at 1.8GHz, coupled with Adreno 509 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, which is further expandable via a microSD card up to 400GB. The dual rear cameras on the Nokia 7.1 are vertically stacked, consisting of a 12MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture. The rear sensors are Zeiss optics and support dual phase detection autofocus (Dual PDAF), along with electronic image stabilization (EIS) for videos. The front camera is an 8MP sensor with fixed focus and an f/2.0 aperture.

Nokia 7.1 hosts a few top-notch connectivity options including 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. For security, the smartphone carries a fingerprint sensor at the rear, and facial recognition feature using the selfie camera. Backing up the device is a 3,060 mAh all-day battery supporting an 18W fast charge that can charge the device from flat to 50% in just 30 minutes. Nokia 7.1 runs on Android 9.0 Pie, based on Android One programme which promises software updates for two years and regular monthly security patches for three years.

Now coming to the pricing, HMD Global revealed the price of Nokia 7.1 in India along with some launch offers through a press release on Friday. The newest smartphone from Nokia has been priced at Rs 19,999 for the sole 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant, which will go on sale starting December 7. As of now, the smartphone is available for pre-order via the Nokia India website. Nokia 7.1 will be sold through top mobile retailers in India along with Nokia’s own online store. India will only see the sole 4GB RAM variant, while the 3GB RAM variant along with 32GB storage has not been dated to be brought to India anytime soon and HMD Global has not even mentioned anything regarding the variant. Nokia 7.1 will be available in two colour options to choose from – Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel.

As already said, Nokia 7.1 comes bundled with certain launch offers from telecom partner Airtel providing prepaid subscribers a whopping 1TB of 4G data on plans starting from as low as Rs 199. On the other hand, postpaid subscribers will be entitled to get additional 120GB of data coupled with a free Netflix subscription for three months and free Amazon Prime subscription for a whole year, on postpaid Airtel plans starting from Rs 499. Apart from these, consumers who use HDFC credit and debit cards, to purchase the Nokia 7.1 smartphone, will get 10 percent cashback via offline stores. This purchase offer will, however, not be applicable on EMI transactions using the HDFC credit and debit cards.
