Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite Launched Globally: Specifications, Price

Xiaomi has a history of rebranding its Chinese Redmi and Mi models when launching them globally. The Mi A1 was a rebranded Mi 5X; similarly it has launched the Mi A2 which is a rebranded version of Mi 6X, that was launched in China in April this year.

Mi A1 was highly successful globally as well as in India and all the Mi Fans were eagerly waiting for its successor, Mi A2. Accompanying the Mi A2 is the Mi A2 Lite, which is a rebranded version of the Chinese Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro. The devices were launched on July 24 at Xiaomi’s Global Launch event in Madrid, Spain.

The launch event witnessed the launch of Xiaomi’s Mi Robot Builder and Mi Electric Toothbrush alongwith Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite smartphones.

Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite Specifications

Mi A2 is a rebranded Mi 6X, and will succeed the popular Xiaomi Mi A1. It sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with 2160 x 1080 resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9, protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It comes powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC clocked at 2.2 GHz with Adreno 512 GPU for graphics rendering. Housing the traditional dual rear-camera setup, Mi A2 has a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor and an 8MP secondary depth sensor. At the front, is a 20MP selfie shooter with a front LED flash and other ambient sensors. The Mi A2 comes in three storage options – 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM; 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM; and a 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant. The Android One-based smartphone will be running on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. A 3010 mAh battery will be providing juice to the device for a decent standby. Like its predecessor Mi A1, the Mi A2 will be sporting a USB Type-C port for fast charging, but will be dropping the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Another device that debuted at the global launch event is the Mi A2 Lite, the rebranded version of Redmi 6 Pro. The Lite version of Mi A2 flaunts a smaller 5.84-inch notch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels giving it an aspect ratio of 19:9. It comes powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2 GHz with Adreno 506 GPU for gaming. Like the Mi A2, this phone also be boasts a dual rear-camera setup with the same 12MP primary sensor but a 5MP depth sensor. A 5MP selfie camera is placed at the front with an LED flash for better selfies in low-light conditions. Mi A2 Lite is available in two storage options – 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM. Mi A2 Lite comes with a dedicated memory card slot for storage expansion upto 256GB. It will be running on the same OS as the Mi A2 and will be packing a 4000 mAh battery to last a day or so. The Lite version sticks to the traditional micro-USB charging port and hosts a 3.5mm headphone jack for music lovers.

Mi A2 Vs Mi A2 Lite

Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite Availability

The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will be sold via Xiaomi’s authorised partners from July 27 in France, from August 8 in Italy and from August 10 in Spain. Both the devices will be available in three colors – Gold, Black and Lake Blue.

A list of countries was revealed at the global launch event as to in which markets will the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite be made available. In India, only the Mi A2 will make its debut and the market will skip Mi A2 Lite so that it doesn’t hinder the sales of same segment devices – the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Redmi Y2.

Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite Price

Mi A2 has been aggressively priced at EUR 249 (roughly Rs 20,000) for 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM, EUR 279 (around Rs 22,500) for 4GB + 64GB variant and EUR 349 (roughly Rs 28,000) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant.

Mi A2 Lite will be sold at EUR 179 (around Rs 14,500) for 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and EUR 229 (nearly Rs 18,500) for 4GB + 64GB ROM version. Mi A2 Lite will only be sold in international markets and not in India.

Xiaomi’s Mi Robot Builder and Mi Electric Toothbrush Price

Mi’s Robot Builder and an Electric Toothbrush were also launched alongside the two smartphones at the global launch event in Madrid, Spain. Mi Robot Builder is priced at EUR 79 (around Rs 6,500) and Mi Electric Toothbrush bears a price tag of EUR 29 (around Rs 2,400).
