The Gather Round occasion is over, and lastly the Cupertino-based organization uncovered their first smartphone lineup with Dual SIM capabilities. Indeed, we all know the technology was introduced almost 10 years back, yet at the same time the rage of iPhone fans never stops. In any case, here is a twist with respect to dual SIM perspective, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max support dual SIM yet not through the physical SIM slot. Rather than that, you can insert just a single SIM into the physical slot and to utilize the second SIM, you got an eSIM arrangement. First, we need to know what an eSIM is to move further with the steps on how to use an eSIM on your iPhone.

What is eSIM?

It is a global standard by GSM to allow users to use multiple carriers without any physical SIM card. One can only use one eSIM card or mobile number at a time but can switch between other carriers or numbers easily without any physical contact or, should we say, switch between carriers remotely.

But many of you may not be able to figure out ‘How to use eSIM’ So, we have brought you a simple step-by-step solution for the same. Let’s get started.

Solutions

First thing first, you need to upgrade to the iOS 12 to use the eSIM feature on new iPhones, which are apparently going to release later this year.

There are mainly two ways to activate eSIM on your iPhones:

  1. Via QR code provided by the operator; or
  2. Through network provider’s app.
  1. Through QR code

  • Go to Settings > Cellular
  • Click on the Add Cellular Plan option
  • There you will find an option to scan QR code on your iPhone
  • Just scan the QR provided by your service provider.

Note In India, only Reliance Jio and Airtel will be providing eSIM support to the new iPhones. So, one needs to contact their support centres or their official stores to get the QR code.

  1. Via Network Provider’s App

  • Go to App Store, and simply download your carrier’s app.
  • Just purchase the plan from within the app, and you are good to go.

Note Via this method, you can use more than one eSIM on your iPhones but you will only be able to use one eSIM at a time. Yes, you can easily switch between eSIMs by tapping on Settings > Cellular > Cellular Plans and select suitable operator/options.
