Apple’s partnership with Intel seems to have hit a rough patch. The Cupertino giant has decided against featuring Intel’s 5G chipset in its 2020 lineup of smartphones. According to a report in Calcist, Intel has stopped development of 5G modems and directed its engineers towards other projects.

In a recent interview with The Verge, an Intel employee stated, “Their 5G plan will not be halted for 2018 because of 2020 projects.” The company added that they will improve on their 5G technology as per industry needs, and will be expected to feature in Apple’s 2022 lineup.

Recently, Apple’s ongoing disputes with Qualcomm were seen to be responsible for pushing it towards new manufacturers, such as MediaTek.

Earlier this year, rumours suggested that Apple would be looking for new chipset instead of using Intel’s SOC in its Mac. As per sources, Apple was looking for new chipset manufacturers to reduce its over-reliance on Qualcomm.

A report published on Bloomberg called out the fact that Apple is now looking to develop its own chipset for the next-generation of iPhones. This in turn will will increase Apple’s control over various aspects of the device manufacturing process. But the interesting part is, Apple’s complete MAC series is based on Intel processors and other than AMD, no other manufacturer competes with Intel in this segment. Apple’s in-house SOC manufacturing definitely improves the seamless experience throughout its own ecosystem.
