Nokia was once the leading smartphone manufacturer in the world. However, with the arrival of iOS and Android-enabled smartphones, the landscape of industry changed. Nokia’s smartphone and services division was sold to Microsoft in 2014. Later in 2016, HMD Global, a Finnish company purchased a part of Microsoft’s feature phone business and thus obtained the license to produce smartphones under the Nokia brand again. It then launched its flagship device, Nokia 8, in August 2017.
