Mukesh Ambani recently launched a series of products including Jio Phone 2, GigaFiber and Smart Home Solution. Both JioPhone and JioPhone 2 are powered by KaiOS, Mukesh Ambani unveils the support for Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube on both the devices from July 15. Interestingly, soon after the announcement, Chief Product Head of HMD Global confirms that the upcoming Nokia 8810 4G or the “banana phone” will also support Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube as it also runs on KaiOS.
For a recall, Kai is an operating system based on Linux kernel and belongs to Firefox OS family. The operating system is developed by KaiOS technologies for feature/low end smartphones.
Nokia 8810 4G and Jio Phone 2, both compete each other in the same segment with similar specifications. But Ambani’s Jio Phone 2 looks more promising as compared to Nokia 8810 4G.
The latter comes with 2.45-inch QVGA (240×320 pixels) display, and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 processor supported by 512MB LPDDR3 RAM. The device features a 2MP camera at the back with flash support. Nokia 8810 sports 4G VoLTE with WiFi-hotspot support, Bluetooth 4.1 and many more. The complete package is powered by 1500mAh battery, which the company claims to provide 9.32 hours of talktime on VoLTE and 25 days of standby time on LTE. The price of the device cannot be approximate, as it’s international price fluctuate between Rs 4,900 to Rs 7,400 ( converted price).
However, Jio Phone 2 is a QWERTY device that comes with 4G VoLTE support. The device sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display and runs on KaiOS. The camera packs a 2MP sensor at the back and a VGA camera sensor at the front for video calling. A 2000mAh battery provides enough standby time as per the company. The whole package is priced at Rs.2,999.
